Therapy

The Psychodynamic Process

The Psychodynamic framework is one way of working among many others (Integrative, Person-centered, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, etc). It is rooted in key concepts that allow for the work to take shape:

  • The therapist works with you to gently explore significant relationships and experiences from your past, including childhood. The goal is to uncover patterns and themes that may be influencing your current struggles.

  • The therapy focuses on bringing unconscious thoughts and feelings to the surface. By becoming aware of these hidden influences, you can begin to understand why you think, feel, or behave in certain ways. This is the key that unlocks many doors.

  • The process helps you gain insight into yourself. This newfound understanding allows you to make conscious choices, break free from old patterns, and respond to challenges in healthier ways.

  • Rather than being random, dreams are considered to be a symbolic language that can reveal hidden desires, fears, and unresolved conflicts.

The therapist and client work together to unravel these symbols, looking beyond the literal narrative of the dream. By understanding the underlying themes and emotions, dream analysis can bring unconscious patterns to light, leading to profound self-discovery and a deeper understanding of one's inner world.

How I work

My practice typically consists of 50 minute weekly sessions, held remotely.

In my work, I strive to give space and work with core principles of Psychodynamic thought, which pave the way to safe exploration as the therapist works through them. These include working the the past and exploring unconscious thoughts to reveal hidden emotions or feelings.

My style of working is to provide a safe, consistent space for you to explore your inner world and thoughts. The therapeutic relationship is central to this process, as I believe it is a powerful tool for lasting change. I maintain a clear framework, which includes not self-disclosing, to ensure our focus remains on you and your journey.

Within this contained space, I am an active and present listening ear, ready to sit with you through the full range of emotions that may arise. When necessary, I will also gently and mindfully challenge you to help you gain new insights and move forward with the work.

The work is a collaboration, and my role is to support and guide you towards a deeper understanding of yourself.
